Ecstatic Music Band is a rotating collective of 10+ members. The group performs on both amplified-acoustic and electric stringed instruments using tuning systems derived directly from the overtone series, producing dense and dynamic fields of harmonic interference and reinforcement, while searching for a deep consonance amid the flux of microtonal variations, beating tones, difference tones, and psychoacoustic phenomena. For this recording, John Krausbauer, Kaori Suzuki, Marielle Jakobsons (Saariselka) and Agnes Szelag have created a hypnotic and disorienting 38-minute drone piece entitled Transmissions Of The Sacred And Profane. Emerging from the end of the piece can feel a bit like learning to walk again; it is a listening experience that can be described as disruptively transformative. EMB’s first release Approaching The Infinite appeared on the Fabrica label. Group members have also collaborated with our friends at Sounds et al and have performed around the world, including a memorable performance at Portland’s esteemed Time-Based Arts Festival.
“In a single unbroken performance, the trio strive for a distinctly maximalist sound, even if from a compositional standpoint there is a greater adherence to the minimalist school of structure…The audacity of listening to such a massive wall of noise can be imposing, but the way the Ecstatic Music Band brings it all together results in a stunning experience.” – Brainwashed
